The Wine Cellar
The Ta’ Frenc wine cellars were inaugurated in July 2005 by Serge Dubs, Meilleur Sommelier du Monde, in the presence of the legendary Alsace wine-maker Jean Hugel. Of what is perhaps the most extensive wine collection in Malta, M.Dubs commented that “very few restaurants in Europe can boast of such a collection”. The temperature-controlled cellar has the capacity to house 7,000 bottles and the current collection of wine represents predominantly European vineyards, with a selection of New Worlds wines and also wines from Maltese and Gozitan vineyards.
For the past years Ta’ Frenc was consecutively awarded the accolade of Best Fine Wine List by the Definitively Good Guide, to add to its awards of Best Overall Restaurant in the Maltese Islands, Best Restaurant for Business Entertaining and Fine Dinning Award.
2006 sees the introduction of the first own-label house champagnes in the Maltese islands, with Ta’ Frenc working in tandem with the house of Boizel in Epernay, the heart of the Champagne region. Boizel, a fifth generation family of champagne producers, has specially selected and bottled a range of champagnes for Ta’ Frenc, included a rosé and blanc de blanc as well as vintage wines.
In order to give our clients the very best in choice and value, we have joined forces with a number of quality wine growers to select Ta’ Frenc’s own house wines representing some of the most respected appellations in France. We are proud to offer o the wines of Hugel from Alsace, Château Feret Lambert from Bordeaux, Château La Bonnelle from Saint Emilion, and Sempé Armagnac.
With its specially-commissioned fresco, its fine table and elegant fittings, the wine cellar makes an excellent venue for special occasions, and has seen a number of wine diners since its inauguration. It is also available for hire for private events. Diners are invited to ask the restaurant manager if they would like to visit the cellar.
